What Our Patients Say

“I came to A(a clinic in NJ) with excruciating pain from sciatica which had not been relieved by other methods that I had tried which included exercise, physical therapy, and medications.  I had six weekly acupuncture treatments and now come every other week. There was some relief immediately and every treatment produced more and more relief.  Most importantly, I felt that I was receiving personalized care.  Dr. Liu would ask me about my symptoms and plan my treatment around those symptoms. He also answered every question I had so I felt better educated about my condition.  I always left the clinic feeling better physically and emotionally. I have taken brochures to my job and share my experience whenever I get a chance.  I’m happy to say that one
of my co-workers has had a similar experience on my recommendation.”
Judith E.

“I saw Don for weekly acupuncture treatments and herbal teas after several unsuccessful medical infertility treatments and after only a few weeks I got pregnant and in January 2009 I delivered a healthy baby girl. We are so grateful to Don and are big believers in acupuncture now!”

“I have suffered from allergies and sinus problems for as long as I can remember. I was referred to see Don with an attitude of skepticism and a feeling of nothing to lose. I had for months, been taking antibiotics and
antihistamines and feeling worse than ever. After several acupuncture treatments, I was 100% improved. At the present time, I am in the worst season for allergies with very high pollen counts, and I continue to be without my expected stuffy head, itchy eyes, sneezing, and coughing. Don not only fixed my problem but has kept it from returning. Acupuncture works!! I am very grateful to Don and enthusiastically recommend him. Don and acupuncture will continue to be my first choice for health care.”

Darlene W., R.N,

“I had personal experience with two cases treated by Dr. Liu. The first case involved a patient with lower back pain.  Apparently, the patient was suffering from month-long back pain limiting his ability to move and to breathe. He tried several medications and physical therapy modalities in order to relieve the discomfort but to no avail. After three acupuncture sessions with Dr. Liu symptoms receded significantly. The second case involved a very stressed professional presenting with several symptoms of fatigue,  feeling of exhaustion and hot, poor sleep, and lack of energy. In that case, gradual progress was made over three weeks. There was an appreciative change in the patient’s ability to perform physical exercise, perception of well-being, and quality of life. Both medical problems are not readily addressed by western medicine since a clear etiology of symptoms cannot be found. Thus, such cases represent difficult problems for Western Medicine. It is my impression that Dr. Liu approached both patients with professionalism and kindness. I am very impressed by the clinical results of his treatments. I would personally recommend Dr. Liu to anyone who is looking for acupuncture treatment.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Because the needles are about the thinness of a hair, insertion is often hardly felt at all. There may be an intermittent sharpness or a dull twinge, but these feelings are only momentary and farless unpleasant than a Western (needle) injection.

The needles are not inserted deep into the skin. When considering acupuncture,
my patients often tell me they were most apprehensive about the needles. They were reassured to learn that the needles are FDA approved as medical devices and are individually wrapped, totally sterile, and disposed of after one use. Those patients also discovered that the treatment was virtually painless because acupuncture needles are extremely thin and flexible — approximately 16 acupuncture needles together equal the thickness of a pin. Most importantly, my patients come to realize that the needles are simply tools to help them move through the process of healing and balance.

Yes. To enhance the value of the treatment, the following guidelines are recommended:

  • Do not come on an empty stomach.
  • Do not eat an unusually large meal just before or after treatment.
  • Do not over-exercise or consume alcoholic beverages 6 hours before or after treatment.
  • Avoid cold and iced drinks, as well as cool food the day of the treatment.
  • Allow for a period of rest immediately after your acupuncture treatment.
  • Continue to take your prescription medications as prescribed by your primary care physician.

Once the needles have been placed, your might feel a dull ache or a tingling sensation which indicates that
the point has been accurately located, and only lasts for a second or two.  Some people even fall asleep.

These are normal responses. Some people say they feel very relaxed when they are having a treatment,
others don’t feel much at all. Even if you don’t feel much you are benefiting from treatment.

Treatments are between 20 minutes and 1 hour long. The first treatment may be up to 1 hour. During this time we will take a full history spend time getting to know you and give you time to ask questions you may have.  After treatment, you can expect to feel less pain, more energy, and a heightened sense of well-being.

The number of treatments required depends on the severity and duration of the symptoms to be addressed. For a cold or flu, one or two treatments can be very helpful. For chronic health conditions of years or even life-long duration, a longer course of treatment is normally required. Within the first 4-6 sessions, the effectiveness of the treatment is often evident, and clear treatment goals should be established.
