Please ask the rep ALL of the following questions, and write down what they say (along with their name and a reference number):

1) Do I have in-network acupuncture benefits?

IF THEY SAY YES:

2) Do I have a copay? Or is it co-insurance?

3) Do I need to meet a deductible? What is my deductible?

4) Is my plan calendar year-based or contract-based?

5) Is there a limit on the number of sessions allowed?

6) If you do have benefits, please make sure to confirm that you are allowed acupuncture benefits for pain management and that isn’t only for anesthesia during surgical procedures.

-We have had issues with some Aetna patients who were told they had benefits, only to find out that they only have benefits when acupuncture is used as a form of anesthesia during surgery.

7) Is prior authorization needed? And if so, what needs to be done?

Please also be aware that even if they tell you that you do have acupuncture benefits, they could still cause issues later on. This has been the case with many Aetna patients.
